While Tahoe is a world class destination for skiing and for good reason its easy to misunderstand that every ski resort is different, each resort their own personality. Safe to say every resort offers their own flare, which after all is what we do in Tahoe isn't?
For those of you who are not aware of Boreal lets set the record straight, Boreal is more than a quick stop off of the Donner Pass. Offering the only Woodward facility on the west coast, Boreal is every park riders dream. Boreal also happens to offer the only night skiing in the Tahoe region (hello after work laps) which provides the longest lift service hours of any other resort. Pair that with their excellent elevation (Tahoe standards we can hear those in CO chuckling from here) Boreal has something for everyone. Whether you're a first timer (excellent place to learn with the layout/ terrain) to pros going for that 1580 or whatever trick they are onto now.
Boreal is known for their world-famous park features. With extensive features that vary variable levels and features its common to see pros out trying to nail a new trick. From beginner sections to full on half pipes and pretty large booters. Woodward being right next store, its the place to learn any skills or tricks you may have been thinking of throwing. Located right off the 80 you cant miss it on your way down the Donner Summit. Plus did we mention they often are the first resort to open?
Terrian: As we mentioned above Boreal is known for their park and night skiing. While most terrain is intermediate (blue) it does offer a few "spicy" runs for more advanced skiers. The groomers are always a good bet since most skiers are their for park features. Even later in the day (6 pm on) we could find some decent spots on piste.
Stuck all day at work when its an epic powder day? Don't worry Boreal offers night skiing. Who can beat a late night pow session that's waist deep? (True story, we did indeed end up getting waist deep pow after work this past season on a random Thursday night).
If you are just looking to try skiing, we can not stress enough how great of a mountain Boreal is for beginners. The greens are approachable and well thats not a bad thing your first few times on skis or a board. Boreal offers affordable lessons and rental equipment as well. Make sure to check out their deals.
Vibe (Experience): While Boreal is not a mega resort or a large one you quickly get the sense that everyone is just out there for the same thing, a good time. Whether you're a park girlie, ski bum, or just wanting to try a few turns its a small mountain that creates a fun atmosphere. Heads up Fridays tend to be the most busy and "rowdy" (its Friday night what would you really expect). Don't let the park rep deter you, you'll find the locals who call Boreal their home mountain to be quite welcoming and may even give you a pointer or two before you take that air.
Food / Apre's: Since its not a huge resort food options are basic yet affordable. Food is also avalialbe in Woodward. The Apre's scene is not really a focal point and at 8 pm on a weekday does it need to be? For a quick bite the options are what you would be craving after a long day.
